Quick Start Video - Part Seven
Sitemap & Publishing
Congratulations! Your stunning website is live and secure! In this video, we'll guide you through publishing your sitemap, and adding Google Analytics to your website.
Site Map & Publishing: Launch, Analyze, and Beyond
You did it! You're at the finish line for setting up your website. We've very excited, only a few more things to do. We need to let the search engines know your website is ready, we do this by publishing your site map. This just lets them know that your websites structure has been modified and ready for indexing.
Afterwards, you'll want to add tracking information your site to see which pages are effective and see how you site is doing and engaging customers and leads. Google has free tools you can set up through Google Analytics. Set up your account then get your embed code ready.
Okay, let's finish this!
1. Verify Your Website with Google Search Console
First, head over to Google Search Console and select the Domain option (not URL Prefix). Enter your domain name (e.g., yourdomain.com
) and click Continue. Google will generate a TXT verification record
Click Copy next to the record to grab it.
Then, open a new browser tab and log into your PhotoBiz account. From the left-hand menu, go to Domains, find your domain, and click Manage DNS (available only if your domain uses AWS Route 53 name servers and you’re on Version 9 or higher).
In DNS settings, add a TXT record, paste the Google verification string, and save your changes.
Return to Google Search Console and click Verify. If everything has propagated, you’ll see a confirmation that your domain ownership is verified.
2. Submit Your Sitemap via Google Search Console
Once verified, in Google Search Console, go to the Sitemaps section in the left-hand menu.
In the “Add a new sitemap” field yourdomainname.com/sitemap.xml
Click Submit, and you’ll see confirmation along with crawl and indexing details. Google will now automatically monitor your sitemap for updates—no need to resubmit unless your domain changes.
2. Add Tracking Embed Code like Google Analytics
Then scroll down the page to the Google Analytics section. Here you can add tracking data to your site, such as Google Analytics or other third party services. You’ll find instructions to sign up for Google Analytics, a free service, and then you can copy their embeddable code into the head section, and click save changes.
Now anyone who visits your website will be tracked. It’s important to keep an eye on your website's performance, and can help you gain valuable insights.
And that’s it! Your website is live, secure, and ready to be found. Congratulations!
